Problem with multi-edition MKV creation

I hope you meant they are NOT part of the problem.

What I mean was the chapter.xml belongs to the step to reproduce the issue, but the chapters itself are not the issue.

I'm not optimistic it will change anything, because one or two gaps may not be enough to trigger any removal. Bear in mind that DGDemux and eac3to do things differently. I don't look for duplicated audio, just a threshold of desync. I don't even know what eac3to does!

Yes I know both tools uses it's own algo to remove audio data.

Don't forget the disk upload. I don't see anything started yet.

Hmm. I downloaded it and opened it in DGDemux. Selected 00800.mpls and it showed properly. Selected 00801.mpls and it just sits there, showing the clips from 00800.mpls and no streams. Then it crashes. Gotta figure out what's up with that before I can continue.

Unfortunately, your guesses are correct. The loud hum can still be heard.
The DTS track is 9kb smaller with the new DGDemux version and the EAC3 track is 7kb smaller. I was happy that this helped a lot.

I would say with the English DTS soundtrack it seems to have helped a tiny bit but that may be just my ears.

In addition, I tested again with eac3to3.45 and the English DTS sound is correct and it sounds exactly like the Blu-ray.

Now, I just need the step-by-step and chapter file.

1. demux video and audio
DGDemux -i "path-to-00800.mpls" -o "target-path" -extras 00910,00912,00913 -demux 1011,1100,1101

2. open MTX and drag and drop the demuxed streams, change to the output tab and load the chapter.xml file
and start the mux process.

3. play the mkv with MPC-HC, jump to chapter 22 and go 5 seconds back and start playback.

Only step 1 is different. I have not used eac3to from the command line since 10 years(cE does all the work in the background), I hope I remember correctly.

OK, the problem is the longest m2ts 00908 seems to not be fully copied.

A few minutes ago the folder was still visible and I wanted to compare the file sizes.

I saw that 00908.m2ts are not the same size. About 3GB is missing.

So I started the upload for the file again, but the folder is now gone.

We must have been dealing with it at the same time.

For completeness, VLC is also able to play multi-edition MKVs, and the very same issue appears there.

This is a hint that the issue may not be due to the player. But on the other hand, I can very well imagine that all common players share the same bug, because that bug is "natural" and most player developers probably fall into that trap if they don't think about multi-edition MKVs from the beginning on.

Anyway, I would suggest that you start your tests with MPC-HC, because VLC has other issues with multi-edition MKVs (if you select the second edition, it indeed plays the second edition, but the UI still claims that it plays the first edition, which is extremely worrying; furthermore, it inadvertently switches editions with no reason in certain situations).
