OMG, guys, I've never worked so hard in my life trying to solve this subtitle sync problem. Even Moe never pushed me so hard.

Nevertheless, I do have a solution working now. Gonna clean it up a bit, regression test, code review, all that jazz, and then give you a test version, hopefully today.

OK guys, here is a new build 40 test version.

* Subtitles sync (may be) fixed.

Please let me know if it works and/or I broke anything. Thank you.

You're amazing Curly! <3 Hope you can take a break and find some time to relax too. Hopefully someone can test another disc besides Elemental to confirm sync issue is fixed, I'll report if any other problems in my own workflow. Cheers!

Indeed, subtitles are in sync now, at least for Elemental. Almost the same timecodes as DGDemux (eac3to_mod on the left, DGDemux on the right): https://www.diffchecker.com/Re6eGD3Z/. And when there is a difference, it's only... 1ms. So we're good!

That's because Curly used my algorithm from DGDemux. There may be insignificant rounding differences. Don't get me wrong, Curly faced very difficult issues in applying the algorithm in eac3to. Bravo, Curly!

Is thdmerge.exe present in the same directory as eac3to_mod.exe?

I've ordered the disk.

Yes, it is. I did a couple of remuxes with "-demux" before this one and all was done correctly.

You are claiming that the eac3to_mod invocation never finishes? Honestly, I'm not interested in your remux stuff. Don't complicate things by bringing that up.

@trojiteEL

Just out of curiosity, how long did you wait for completion? Did eac3to_mod crash or was it still running in task manager?

Here is the first DV disk I tested. No issues. I'll look for one with EAC3 audio.

Just out of curiosity, how long did you wait for completion? Did eac3to_mod crash or was it still running in task manager?
Apologies for the delay.

Just made another rip of the same disc and demuxed it again. Watched the task manager when it was running. When it stopped, it was not running in task manager - so it crashed. I noticed in task manager for a split second some Windows Warning process (or Crash report maybe?) when it crashed. Just some process appeared and disappeared right away.

EAC3TO_Mod Bug Reports and Feature Requests Only

That's very strange for the eac3to(_mod) exception handler (madExcept) not to kick in. We'll have to wait until Monday for the disk to arrive and hope it fails for me the same way.

Can you tell me your OS details?

Can you please try with 3.36?

Finally, if you can repeat this, can you check the windows error logs immediately after the crash? Thank you.

I did 7 disks since your report without issues.

Hmm, I wonder if this is related to the crash described in https://www.rationalqm.us/board/viewtop ... 628#p18628. I think it could be, as the lack of a space after the colon shouldn't matter (eac3to adds one automatically). I have that disk so let me see if I can duplicate that report.

EDIT: I ran the same command 10 times without problems. :(

EAC3TO_Mod Bug Reports and Feature Requests Only

@Curly:

Windows 10 Pro version 22H2 (19045.3693).

There is no overclock on CPU - default settings: Ryzen 9 3950x on Aorus x570 Xtreme board. RAM is set to XMP though: 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600 MHz 16-16-16-36 {F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN}.
Got it running for 3+ years and never experienced any issues with instability whatsoever. Strange really.

Found those Windows Error logs when it crashed for me (had to translate it to English from my OS language):

Code: Select all

Name of the missing application: eac3to_mod.exe, version: 3.40.0.0, time stamp: 0x2a425e19
Name of missing module: avcodec-54.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x54ff3fa0
Code of exception: 0x40000015

Identification of missing process: 0x2640

Path of missing application: m:\eac3to_mod\eac3to_mod.exe
Path of missing module: m:\eac3to_mod\avcodec-54.dll
Identification of report: 5b2fa5f6-fabd-4bdd-a5f7-83d41cb1d7a5
Just started my PC and copied the UHD BD's folder from HDD to my M.2 NVME drive and tried to demux it from there... Changed the path of eac3to_mod folder to another M.2 NVME drive and got the same crash report with the missing module and code of exception errors appears.

Just tried with eac3to 3.36 as you asked but with -demux I got "this video conversion is not supported" error and it stops as 3.36 did for me bofore (that's why I never used it and stayed with 3.34). Tried manually for all the ENG tracks/audios and subtitles and without .h265 track it is demuxing fine. Including .h265 stream, got the same "video conversion is not supported" error.

EAC3TO_Mod Bug Reports and Feature Requests Only

Post by Curly »

Hmm, that's interesting. "Missing" seems like a mistranslation. Should be "Faulting". Or maybe fscked up guy. It's all the same.

So why is avcodec-54.dll faulting? And version 0.0.0.0? Is it the one that comes with 3.36? Simple demuxing should not even require that DLL.

Thank you for your testing. The disk arrives tomorrow. I sure hope it fails like it does for you.

EDIT: Ooh, naughty naughty, you gave a thd+ac3 extension. Don't do that! Please repeat the final test with just .thd for track 4.

I just checked and old avcoded-54.dll I had for a long time with eac3to 3.34 is bit-identical to that one from eac3to 3.36. With deleting this .dll or moving it to other place, ea3to_mod won't work at all. You get .dll missing error.

So why is avcodec-54.dll faulting? And version 0.0.0.0? Is it the one that comes with 3.36? Simple demuxing should not even require that DLL.

Hmm, I wonder if this is related to the crash described in https://www.rationalqm.us/board/viewtop ... 628#p18628
I just took a look at the Windows' error logs and like trojiteEL, I have the error with the avcodec-54.dll when eac3to_mod can't demux and just stops. So it does indeed look like the DLL (related to FFMPEG) is sometimes used by eac3to_mod, even when demuxing, although it shouldn't as you say.

And to answer your question, yes, the avcodec-54.dll is included with eac3to 3.36.

Thank you guys for the testing and reports. It was indispensable. :salute:

OK, boys and girls, please re-download build 3.40 test and see if it no longer crashes.

I also added a tasty snack for you. See if you can spot it.

So far so good. More tests are needed to be sure, but you did a good job with this one!

I see that you've changed the -progressnumbers command, so now the progress bar is only one line, instead of one line per new percent. That's great too, thanks!

Regarding this, would it be possible to add -progressnumbers in the .ini file, so eac3to_mod automatically uses it without the need to add it for every command?
