Garbled video on seek in MPC-HC
On the Halloween (2018) EUR UHD BD, I found an issue if I demux the playlist (00800.mpls) using eac3to 3.52. After demuxing, I mux with MKVToolNix (latest version). I watch using MPC-HC with madVR as the renderer (latest versions of both).
After doing the above steps, and watching in MPC-HC, if I advance chapters to chapter 19 (01:35:33.394), the video is garbled/distorted. I see the same if I seek to specific timestamps before and after that chapter timestamp. The video plays fine through that part; it's just the seeking that's affected.
If I demux that same playlist using eac3to 3.34 and then mux using MKVToolNix, this issue does not occur.
Also, if I demux the stream (00294.mpls) (not the playlist) using eac3to 3.52 and then mux using MKVToolNix, this issue does not occur. So, it specifically happens when demuxing the playlist, but not when demuxing the stream, using 3.52.

Thank you for your report. Please give the eac3to command line and show the output for 3.34 and 3.52.
Also, please give a link to purchase the disk.

I tested with a randomly chosen disk: Boy and the Heron UHD. I went through your process with 3.52 and navigated to each chapter. Everything was fine.
Let me ask a few more questions before I buy Halloween.
1. Is it only chapter 19 that fails on Halloween?
2. Have you seen this with other disks?
3. Can you please try it with DGDemux?

1. As far as the chapter stops, yes (but read my response to #2 below).Curly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:04 amI tested with a randomly chosen disk: Boy and the Heron UHD. I went through your process with 3.52 and navigated to each chapter. Everything was fine.

2. Yes, several other discs. I'll go back and try to provide some additional examples. The Halloween disc was a convenient example, because the issue was right at a chapter stop, rather than me clicking around the seek bar randomly and finding one. It seems to happen around scene changes.
3. Yes, I will try with DGDemux later and will post the results. On some of the other discs where I've seen this issue, DGDemux produced the same issue.

OK, thank you. Have you tried other players?
Another thing you can do is demux the video and then index and serve it with DGDecodeNV to VirtualDub2. Jump around and see if you can get seeking errors. If you don't have an nVidia card then never mind.

@Peter
Any updates on the testing I requested, please? I am holding off buying this disk pending this information.

One more thing, please. Since you said that 3.34 is OK while 3.52 is not OK. Can you provide the two respective chapter files so that I can diff them? Thank you.

I've been busy. And I've provided a decent amount of detail here already, including a disc to reproduce.
What about this issue, that I reported in April?

Another hit and run, I guess...

This was with an Intel card, but I've seen the same issue on my HTPC, which does have an nVidia card.
Garbled video on seek in MPC-HC
I just demuxed again with both versions, and the chapter files were identical, with the exception of 3.52 including the last chapter, at the very end of the film (which the old versions of eac3to drop).

In case I did not mention this earlier, I've only seen this issue with UHD/HEVC content, not HD/AVC/VC-1 content.
