Thank you Mr gonca. You are very kind.

The grille cloth and one set of led bulbs arrived. I'm going to use the herringbone pattern. Photos tomorrow. I left the replacement resistor in place of the led bulb as before and then just plugged the led bulb in the socket. It worked fine. Then I put it across my 6Vdc lines and it also worked but brighter. I am going to go with the plan described before. DG will be happy hopefully. Also gonna start the top coat tomorrow on radio 1.

On radio 2, I rewired everything back to spec after fixing the short. I'm not going to power it up, though, until the lytics get replaced and also that poor distressed paper one.

I really believe radios have souls.

Guys, that loctal short wasn't the only short I found. Do y'all think this famous TYNEE-DRY capacitor from radio 2 should have a resistance of 4.6 ohms? Seems a bit low to me. ;) Consequently, R8 has bought the farm. See that gob of solder on the negative terminal? That was the failed attempt to solder to the chassis.

The led looks great and DG likes it. Even a 6-year-old can find an acorn. I'll show it to you when I get to re-assembling radio 1. I also want to make one more electrical change. When I replaced the Philco 'special' capacitor, I omitted the series inductor (we do have the shunt resistor).

https://www.philcorepairbench.com/i-f-w ... capacitor/

But I read somewhere that receiver sensitivity is better with the inductor. So I have a 0.62 uH inductor on order.

I think you guys are just trying to distract from my brilliance. It won't work!

Guys, check out this link, especially the Elements of Radio Servicing book.

The patient has a pulse! Radio 2 is sitting up and talking. In the photo below you can see that I have patched in the new lytics and replaced R8 and C23. You can see their burned-out hulks at the bottom left. That was caused by the shorted lytic and maybe helped by the B- to chassis short. I also rough aligned it and it is performing quite well. Gonna do the line dropping resistor and led changes. Right now it's running off the variac at 110Vac. May leave the special cap and the other paper caps alone. Cabinet may be left original for comparison.

On radio 1, I have installed the bypass inductor. No obvious difference but that is the factory design, so. I also completed the 4th staining and final touch-up and DG gave me the go-ahead to topcoat it after it dries.

Looks like Rocky lying in his hospital bed with all the tubes and wires keeping him alive.
