DGindex Questions?

Post by DelBoy83 »

I currently use eac3to and DGDemux to demux my movies. Can anyone tell me what's different in regards to DGindex and DGDemux please? Can you cut/trim video and will it also be able to demux dvds? As it stands I dont have a gpu because I don't really do gaming but I understand a gpu is needed for DGindex, is that correct?

DGindex Questions?

Be aware that there is DGIndex and there is DGIndexNV. DGIndex is for DVDs and MPEG stuff only. It does not require a GPU. It can demux DVDs but it cannot demux bluray/UHD disks. So it is no way comparable to DGDemux. It was developed when only DVDs were a thing. There are lots of online tutorials explaining how to use it to process DVDs.

DGIndexNV is the successor to DGIndex. It requires an nVidia GPU. It can demux basically everything, including DVDs and bluray/UHD disks, and is somewhat comparable to DGDemux.

With DGIndex you can cut/trim video by defining a project range. With DGIndexNV you can do that as well but you can also directly trim transport streams. Note that neither one is intended to be a video editor. You can also do trims in your Avisynth/Vapoursynth script.

Please post again if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the info Rocky. I will try and pick up a gpu at the weekend. With DGIndexNV, can you trim the video or is just a demuxer/frameserver?

Sorry, you posted before my last edit. Please check my reply above.

Getting an nVidia card will also open up a new world of very fast CUDA-accelerated filters that you may find useful. Things like 10/12-bit video, HDR support, 4:4:4 support, and Vapoursynth support are also enabled.

Cool, I will have to grab a GPU over the weekend. I was going to wait for the Black Friday sales but don't think i can wait that long.

DGindex Questions?

I'm looking at the - MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 12GB GDDR6, 1807 MHz, PCI Express Gen 4, 192-bit, 3x DP (v1.4), HDMI 2.1 (Supports 4K) or MSI GeForce RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 8GB GDDR6X, PCI Express Gen 4, 128-bit, 3x DP v 1.4a, HDMI 2.1a (Supports 4K & 8K HDR) Black

I'm not too computer literate but these are going for a decent price.

Either will be fine. The 3060 has better specs for DGDecNV stuff, so get that unless you will be gaming with it. The 4060 may be marginally better for gaming.

Do you mean VRAM Bus Width 192 bit for 3060 vs 128 bit for 4060, and/or Bandwidth (GBps) 360 for 3060 vs 272 for 4060 according to some sources ? Shaders and texture mapping units also appear to be more numerous on the 3060.
I really do like it here.

Good morning m8! Yes, that's what I was thinking, bearing in mind how the CPU<->GPU transfers are the bottleneck for CUDA filtering. The video decode engine performance does not differ much.

We should get Snow White. Set the Wayback Machine to 1938, Mr Sherman.
