which nvidia driver ... gaming driver or studio driver ?

Post by hydra3333 »

Hello. Over at videohelp someone mentioned a h.265 encoding issue with an RTX 4070, and partly in response selur raised trying the studio driver.

https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/415 ... ost2746328

I guess that raises some related questions (I have WIn11/RTX2060, often captures with issues) ...
- what's the diff, is one driver "better" than the other in some way ?
- is one driver better or safer or more tolerant than the other when using DGDecNV for decoding ?
- is one driver better or safer or more tolerant than the other when using DG's cuda filters ?

Any other advice or observations would be welcomed.
Cheers

It depends on if the game-ready driver introduced any new bugs. Generally, they should be comparable.

Nothing specific for DG but generally the studio drivers will be more stable. Game-ready drivers provide latest tweaks for specific games, and that may not be relevant for stable video processing applications.

Again, probably nothing specific for DG.

Experientially, It doesn't seem to matter but if stability is your priority, stick to the studio drivers.

Hello matey !
It's dead set winter down here in the antipodes, I even have to use a jumper sometimes ... although I nearly did get sunburned on Sunday arvo out watching the footy in the peasants seating. I only had a team-colours scarf in my footy bag and had to wrap that around my delicate face and neck since I forgot to pack the sunburn cream. Oh well. Am still recovering from a fair slice and dice on my lower abdomen needed to fix some minor thing; a decent sized beaut looking scar (could not have a keyhole job on it due to other conditions) with a set of Frankenstein size staples holding it all together. Thank goodness for "free" (read: extra 2% tax) Australian Medicare and cheap medical insurance, I'm only peanuts out of pocket. I feel top of the world now having just started putting on my own trousers and socks all by myself :) Six more weeks to go before I can walk distances and attempt to swing a golf club. Also fairly pleased at having passed a median use-by date from another diagnosis and thus not having to spend money on a pine box ! Cool !

Am still, long ongoing, pleased as punch with DGdecNV and CUDAsynth filters, I rely on them literally every day. Thank goodness you made that.

As an old user (multiple uses, those words) of VideoReDo which is now defunct but still usable, I have been looking for something which parses and corrects corrupted OTA mpeg4 captures but neither I nor anyone else over at videohelp has found anything like its QuickStreamFix. A pity, since one of the local channels has taken to regularly doing odd things which causes VideoReDo to throw an error. Last I heard, the owner's widow won't relinquish it even though server leasing has ceased and the main employee has made approaches, so sad really. Native ffmpeg doesn't seem fault tolerant, no luck there.

Thanks for your advice, I'll swap to the studio driver.

Good luck to you, and stay out of the midday sun :D

You're too funny Mr hydra3333. Curly's not gonna like it.

Did I tell you about Alice's new recipe? She tried to make me eat it but I don't like broccoli. Yuck!
